Sucker
Charli XCX
Black Vinyl Reissue edition
Reissue on 140 g. black vinyl.

When Sucker was released in December 2014, the album marked Charli XCX's entry into the mainstream's pop-punk and bubblegum rock universe. In the wake of the global success of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," in which she featured, and her own megahit "Boom Clap," Charli created the album Sucker as a defiant middle finger to the traditional pop industry's expectations. Where the debut was characterized by dark synth landscapes, Sucker instead offered sharp guitar riffs, group vocals, and self-assured lyrics, cementing her reputation as a fearless and unpredictable pop star.

Sucker sent Charli XCX onto charts worldwide with a series of successful singles, led by the soundtrack hit "Boom Clap," the pop-punk anthem "Break the Rules," and the satirical "Doing It." With loud, guitar-driven arrangements and cheerleader-inspired choruses, Charli showed that she could conquer commercial radio on her own terms and offer a raw and unruly alternative to the polished pop landscape of the mid-2010s.

Although Sucker was both a commercial success and received great praise from critics – including placements on several influential media's year-end lists – Charli XCX's frustration grew over the rigid promotional campaigns and creative limitations that came with life on a major record label. The experiences of chasing radio hits led her to turn her back on the traditional pop star role and instead seek out the experimental electronic underground, where she could unfold her artistic vision without compromise..
