When Number 1 Angel was released in March 2017, the mixtape marked Charli XCX's transition to a release format that gave her freedom from traditional album cycles and delays at major record labels. The mixtape was executive produced in collaboration with PC Music founder A.G. Cook and bridges the gap between the experimental, industrial soundscapes of Vroom Vroom EP and irresistible, glittering pop melodies. At the same time, the release underscored Charli XCX's growing role as a creative curator with a series of guest appearances from innovative artists on the international indie and electronic scene.
