LEONARD COHEN

Cohen's fifth album (released by Warner Bros. in 1977) was produced and co-written by Phil Spector. The duo managed to write 15 songs in just three weeks together (at the time Spector exclaimed they had written "some great fuckin' music") but only 8 made the final cut of the album. The combination of Spector's famous Wall Of Sound, a general sense of loose fun in the studio and the unbridled sexuality and voyeurism of the lyrics certainly represents a big step forward. At the same time, Death Of A Ladies' Man both lyrically and stylistically is one of Cohen's career peaks, maybe even a masterpiece. Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg sang backup vocals on the chorus of the classic "Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On".
