From the cover art to the lyrics, death metal legends Deicide took an uncompromising stance against the Church on their 1995 album Once Upon the Cross. In fact, the album included samples from the film The Last Temptation of Christ, which was accused of blasphemy itself. However, the band were not standing still; the astonishing guitar pyrotechnics of Eric and Brian Hoffman, and the furious bass and drum fusillades of Glen Benton and Steve Asheim, became ever more awe-inspiring, and dare we say it, miraculous. To mark its first widespread U.S. vinyl release, Once Upon the Cross has been given a milky clear with blood splatter pressing, remastered for the format and complete with a printed inner sleeve featuring lyrics.
