VIBRATORS (The)

 More from this Band

In case you were wondering if the Vibrators were still kicking ass, one look at this live show from CBGB's will tell you. Yes.

Thanks to MVD, we can now see the late 70's punk rock phenomena at its best - in 2004. The Vibrators' career spans twenty-seven years and makes them one of the first punk rock bands out of the UK and one of the few that are actually still around. They're still touring and the years have not slowed them down.

Their songs are fast, intense, melodic, adrenaline pumping walls of noise with barely enough time between each song to take a breath, but that doesn't stop Knox, Eddie and Pete from pounding out one after another. From the punk ballad "Baby, Baby" (which is often said to be the first punk love song) to the heavy and powerful "Troops of Tomorrow", the DVD features some of the Vibrators classics, including "Yeah Yeah Yeah" as well as newer songs from their last album, Energize.

Originally formed in 1976, the Vibrators have been through many line-up changes over the years. The band was formed by four members: Ian "Knox" Carnochan (vocals/guitar), Eddie (drums), Pat Collier (bass) and John Ellis (guitar). Both Collier and Ellis ended up leaving and being replaced by temporary members. The band ended up splitting up in 1980, only to reform in 1982 with the original four members. This didn't last long and the band eventually became the threesome we have today: Knox, Eddie, and Pete.

The DVD features two interviews with the Vibrators, one inside CBGB and the other shot on a street in Hoboken with a kid named "Punk Rock Eric". The first interview has Knox, Eddie (and a charmingly silent Pete) discussing the songs, their history and tour stories. There is a surprise addition to the interview when a former member of the band, Nigel Bennett, comes in and adds some interesting tales of his own.

Viewing this show makes one thing clear: the Vibrators are still vibrating.

The show consists of seventeen songs, followed by a six song encore, which features the hits "Brand New Cadillac" (made popular by The Clash), "Amphetamine Blue", "Bad Time", "Pure Mania", "Wrecked On You", and "Yeah Yeah Yeah".
