STEAL YOUR CROWN

 More from this Band

Unsigned hardcore is always a risky listen. Either you’re going to come across the next Your Demise or you’re going to have a stroppy muppet in a flat cap yell at you incoherently for half an hour. Whilst I am pleased to say that Throne of Infamy is certainly not the latter, they still may have a way to go before they reach the top of the sweaty hardcore mountain.

Again, this isn’t a bad album. It’s just a little unpolished. The guitar and drum grooves are excellent, sure to induce widespread moshing and head banging in a live scenario, but on record they’re a little quiet and could do with being a little more clarified. On the other hand, the gnarly production does actually seem to work pretty well with the whole hardcore thing.

The vocals are, to say the least, very hardcore. I must say it’s nice to hear Diogo’s Portuguese accent really coming through, and not an imitated American one (you know who you are, hardcore singers). People who are ardent fans of Cradle of Filth would probably find this vocal style a bit too brutish and stupid, but if you consider that hardcore music is supposed to be raw and DIY, then the choices made all across the album become incredibly justified. And not just justified, but actually done well.
