Itchy are back and remain one of the most likeable constants in the German punk rock universe: With their new album Dive, the three set a musical milestone and show in 12 crashing, again in English, how you can still sound fresh, cynically provocative, insanely pissed off and at the same time extremely charming even after more than two decades of band history. After years of live drought, Itchy were finally able to do what the band is notorious for at the end of 2022 - celebrating escalating live shows. The often postponed tour finally became the most successful in the band's history and every evening the frenetic crowds showed that not only the band missed the intense live experiences badly. The new album reflects exactly the joy of playing and energy with which the band spurs their audience on to physical peak performance night after night. Itchy put their salty fingers in the open wounds of society, politics and religion and still let the listeners become part of their own world again and again. Topics such as political hypocrisy and stagnation (Thoughts & Prayers), the abuse scandals of the church (No one's listening), the amusing admission of one's own social competence (I'm alright) or the confrontation with confused voices in the head (Prison Light) fly alternately out of the speakers. For the emotional anti-capitalism anthem Burn the whole thing down, Sibbi, Panzer and Max have brought prominent support with Justin Sane from Anti-Flag on board this time and so they rail together in brute verses and a sugar-sweet refrain against the higher-further-faster mentality of our time. Every song on Dive has its own vibe and despite the heaviness in music and lyrics, it's a positive album that always leaves enough room for a winning wink. In autumn then again on a big tour.
